Are you really saving by purchasing your pool chemicals at big box retail stores?
1) Some of their chlorine is filled with junk you don't want in your pool to make up less chlorine by weight in the product. Most of them now don't even put the available chlorine on the packaging anymore because it was usually 35% or less compared to the 68% to 99% you would get from a pool store. This means you have to use more of their stuff to do the same job.
2) Big hardware stores usually are more expensive on all of their pool chemicals. Most of the time even the salt they sell is for water purification systems NOT pools and will void warranties of salt systems.
3) Some of the algicides that are sold at a big box store is metallic based and can cause staining in an improperly balanced pool. Unfortunately there is usually no one you can ask for help that can tell you whether you should really be using that.
